![]() Since a higher level of dementia prevalence positively biases the chances of detecting dementia, accounting for prevalence may have further increased the sensitivity and specificity of the GPCOG relative to the Mini-Cog. Furthermore, the reported prevalence of dementia in the Mini-Cog studies (1182/4178 28.3%) was slightly higher than that of the GPCOG (292/1082 27.0%). Taking reported pooled sensitivity (Se) and specificity (Sp) alone, where DOR = (Se x Sp)/((1 – Se) x (1 – Sp)) the GPCOG (76.96) performs better than the Mini-Cog (62.11). ![]() While we agree with this approach, this measure was not reported in the Abstract, Results or online Supplementary Material, so it is unclear to the reader how or if the DOR was actually used to support their conclusions independently of pooled sensitivity and specificity. In contrast to these reported measures, in the Methods the authors state that a diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) was used as a single indicator of test performance, to account for the trade-off between sensitivity and specificity in the context of different thresholds used across studies. In addition, while the confidence intervals are equally wide between the tests for sensitivity, for specificity they are narrower for the GPCOG than the Mini-Cog. However, the reported values for the GPCOG are numerically higher with respective values of 0.92 (0.81-0.97) and 0.87 (0.83-0.90). The Mini-Cog is reported to have pooled sensitivity and specificity values of 0.91 (0.80-0.96) and 0.86 (0.74-0.93), respectively. However the data are at odds with this conclusion. Shared Decision Making and Communicationĭear Drs Tsoi, Chan, Hirai, Wong, and Kwok, A recently published meta-analysis of the effectiveness of different cognitive screens in detecting dementia stated that the Mini-Cog and the ACE-R are the best alternative screening tests to the MMSE due to their high pooled sensitivity and specificity compared to other alternative screens. ![]() Scientific Discovery and the Future of Medicine.Health Care Economics, Insurance, Payment.Clinical Implications of Basic Neuroscience. ![]()

This adds force from an arbitrary point in space with optional falloff. This accumulates a pull toward AttractorPosition into the Physics.Force parameter. This adds a rotational force as described by the newtons applied on the yaw, pitch and roll axes, and accumulates that value to the Physics.RotationalForce parameter. This adds a force vector (in cm/s) to the Physics.Force parameter in a specific coordinate space. It then adds that value to Transient.PhysicsForce. This accumulates a pull toward the nearest position on a line segment. This scales the Physics.Force parameter down to the magnitude specified if it exceeds the Force Limit. This applies a gravitational force (in cm/s) to the Physics.Force parameter. It accumulates into Physics.Drag and Physics.RotationalDrag, which are solved in the Solve Forces and Velocity and Solve Rotational Forces and Velocity modules. This applies the Drag value directly to particle velocity and rotational velocity, irrespective of mass. Samples a medium resolution baked tiling curl noise field by default, but can optionally sample a perlin-derived curl function directly at increased cost. This adds to the Physics.Force parameter using a curl noise field. This module converts rotational and linear forces, such as Curl Noise Force, into rotational and linear velocity. This adds to the Physics.Force parameter, which will translate into acceleration within the solver. This module is placed after the Solve Forces and Velocity module, so that the event can contain both position and velocity data. The event payload for each particle also contains the particle velocity, a particle ID which can be used to create a Ribbon ID per particle, the age of the particle generating the event, and a random number that can be used in various ways. This generates an event that contains the position of the particle. This module directly sets the Particles.Color parameter, with scale factors for the Float3 Color and Scalar Alpha components. This sets the particle position, velocity, and color from a Chaos solver. This retains the in-camera particle size by taking into account the camera's FOV, the particle's camera-relative depth, and the render target's size. This module offsets the particle along the vector between the particle and the camera. Spawn Beam creates a static beam that does not recalculate the start and endpoints each frame. This is useful for sprite facing along a beam-style path, or for using with the ribbon renderer for a classic-style beam. This module places particles along a bezier spline, or simply along a line between two points. To vary the width along the length of the beam, use a curve indexed into the Particles.RibbonLinkOrder as provided from the default spawn beam module. This module controls the width of the spawned beam and writes that width to the Particles.RibbonWidth parameter. ![]() He hoped I hadn’t informed my passengers as to the airline that caused the wild ride. The captain replied with an equally humorous apology. With a humorous tone, I expressed my lack of appreciation for sending us his wingtip vortices. I’m a Boeing guy.Ī day later, I attached the photos to the e-mail message I sent the Air France captain. Perhaps the airplane was seeking revenge for my opinion of its appearance. I now have a new regard for the size of an A380. They had climbed above us at some point down the road. Once level, through the observation process of the TCAS and radio chatter, we determined that our friends at Air France had cut my coffee break short. Utilizing heading mode, I corrected our slight deviation away from the course line until LNAV re-engaged. I continued our climb, selecting the more efficient VNAV mode. ![]() Our clearance request was granted without delay. Within moments, another wispy spiral sped its way back toward our position. I wasn’t going to wait for the next encounter. I pressed the vertical-speed button on the glareshield eyebrow and rotated the dial to a 500 fpm rate of climb. I instructed my copilot to ask Gander Center for an immediate altitude change to FL 400. The vortex once again appeared, buffeting the airplane. Never in my career had I actually seen one in its entirety at cruise altitude. In spectacular fashion, I watched as a wispy spiraling circle rocketed back toward us. I immediately pushed the heading select button on the eyebrow of the glareshield and turned us 30 degrees to the right. Sure enough, another airplane cruised directly ahead of us at FL 400. Suspecting foul play, I glanced at the traffic symbol on the TCAS display. I hopped back into the left seat only to be greeted by another bout of turbulence. ![]() I stumbled my way to the interphone and called my copilot, indicating an urgent desire to return to the cockpit. Imagine that.īy the sharpness of the bumps and the definitive bank of the airplane, I had a good idea that we had not encountered your garden-variety clear-air turbulence. He was commanding all flight attendants to be seated. The flight attendant reached for the handset. Within moments, the intercom phone chimed. Her smile was replaced by a wide-eyed expression. The very pleasant and seasoned flight attendant I had engaged in conversation grabbed the nearest stationary piece of galley equipment for support. As I began to pour, the airplane experienced a rapid succession of intense turbulence. After my lavatory visit, the next order of business was a cup of java. It is accepted fact that most international airline war stories begin with, “When the captain was on break …” This short story is no exception.Ī few hours later, my bladder and caffeine levels were at polar opposites. Unfortunately, we would have another exchange, but through no deliberate fault of Air France, this encounter wasn’t as pleasant. We exchanged a few more pleasantries and some A380 trivia. ![]() When the captain responded, I offered to e-mail the photos. Proud of my accomplishment, I keyed the mic on the air-to-air frequency and hailed the Air France flight. A quick scan of my pictures revealed I’d managed to capture a few decent shots - cool. Once my marginal attempts at photography were complete, I retreated back to the left seat with the Nikon. I’m sorry, but a Beluga whale pregnant with twins is more attractive. On the ground, the airplane has no sex appeal. The A380 has a majestic quality in flight. I considered pushing the thrust levers up and matching the speed for pure gamesmanship, but burning more fuel didn’t make sense just for entertainment purposes.Īs my camera clicked away, I made a subjective observation. The A380 was gliding by at a speed of Mach. Taking a step toward the copilot’s window, I took in the view. I unbuckled, rose from my seat and retrieved the Nikon from my laptop bag. “Just happen to have my camera available,” I remarked. “Great photo op, Boss,” my copilot announced as he stared outside. Within minutes, the anonymous jet appeared in view from the copilot’s side window. The other airplane was 1,000 feet below at FL 380. Another airplane was approaching us from behind at the 5 o’clock position. As we passed our first waypoint of 20 degrees longitude westbound over the North Atlantic, my copilot and I studied the TCAS symbol on the navigation display. ![]()
![]() I found that I seem to get very technical compression that still stays quite musical. MusicRadar verdict: Opal is a great plugin with plenty of attractive features and is one of the most flexible opto designs available. It can be hard getting excited about yet another compressor emulation, but UVI has absolutely nailed it, delivering a plugin that supersizes the Opto concept yet retains ease of use for quick results. Overall Opal clearly delivers amazing tone and envelope shaping capabilities. While we’re flagging niggles, we think the tool tips could also be more informative. Also worth noting is that the interplay between the Tube Simulation and Treble is slightly confusing, and when you switch both of them off, there’s a considerable reduction in the high frequencies. ![]() It also incurs a noticeable increase in CPU usage. This creates both odd and even harmonics and is pretty subtle unless you crank the knob up high. Tube Simulation and Drive combine to activate and adjust the valve make up gain circuit. Treble emulates the subtle boost of the original hardware, and this can be deactivated. The only slightly confusing thing here is that the knob works in reverse to the hardware, so fully counter clockwise is bypassed. This modifies the sidechain, making the compression gradually more sensitive to higher frequencies. Next up, Mid Presence is Opal’s version of the LA-2A emphasis option.
